Lenovo, Median AG, Lenovo PC, ThinkPad, Packard-Bell, European PC maker, Chinese PC maker

Lenovo, China’s biggest PC maker is eager for growth in Europe and they’ve just acquired 37% stake of the German PC maker Median AG. The new acquisition will expand Lenovo’s share in the German PC market by up to 14%.Lenovo is the fourth largest vendor of PCs in the world. The deal with Median AG can make Lenovo’s market share increase by about 7.5%, bunking them up to the place of third largest player.

Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo’s Chief Executive Officer, said “This agreement represents another bold move from Lenovo to realize its long-term strategy. It will complement both Lenovo’s core PC business and new businesses which are key areas for development.”

At the beginning of the year Lenovo partnered with Japanese PC maker NEC. Lenovo also acquired IBM’s PC company division some years back, giving them the ThinkPad series of notebook PCs.

This is the second time Lenovo has tried to get a European PC maker.  A few years back, the company confirmed its interest in acquiring USA based Packard-Bell, but it was beaten by Taiwan’s Acer.
