Apple plays dirty with Samsung, demands Galaxy prototypes

The legal battle between the two tech heavyweights, Samsung and Apple, has taken a fresh twist after a federal court bench forced Samsung to hand over prototypes of its new Galaxy series phones and tablets to Apple. Apple has accused Samsung of Shanzhainagins, putting pressure on Samsung as the Galaxy series is the iPhone’s biggest competition and the iPad’s only real competition so far.

Apple has won a court order, from San Jose Judge Lucy Koh, forcing Samsung to hand over prototypes of its Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9, Infuse 4G and DROID Charge. Samsung Galaxy S II and Infuse 4G are already up for sale in the UK and the US, the rest in question are yet to hit the store shelves. Judge Koh has given Samsung an ultimatum of one month to hand over device prototypes together with the packaging.

To the relief of the Korean major, the prototypes will be shown only to the lawyers hired by Apple and not to its staff or in-house lawyers. What’s your opinion of these Shanzhai charges against Samsung? Is it Apple just trying to be annoying to Samsung or are they for real?
