In China we’ve occasionally seen netbooks around the USD 130-150 mark advertised on home shopping channels, but they’ve invariably been ARM-based, had 7” screens and run Windows CE. Here, for the first time, we have a couple of x86-based 10.1” sized devices with Wi-Fi, webcam and pre-installed Windows XP at price points that undercut what’s currently available by USD 40-50!
Branded
AOJIE, one version – the X100V - features the 1.6GHz VIA C7-M processor and wholesales for USD 146, while the other version – the X100A - sports an Intel Atom N270 chip (also spec’d at 1.6GHz) and is available for a slightly higher USD 160.

The devices are targeted at the large (and very price sensitive) student segment, and the company reports that it is currently working with education organizations to bundle free education software with the products.

Western Opportunity Analysis:
We’re not talking about state-of-the-art hardware here, but for those of us who spend most of our time in the Internet cloud these days (and to be fair, that group includes a large majority of students) these two devices will offer all the performance and functionality required. And obviously, with only 4GB of flash memory, the manufacturer expects that users of these netbooks will be browsing and storing most of their content online.
From a purely economic standpoint, these two products would undoubtedly find a receptive consumer audience in Western markets, and the student segment seems a pretty good fit.

Conclusions:
As an added bonus there seems to be something on the AOJIE website about a Hello Kitty customization for the cover. Could be an incentive to buy for some I guess …
