A few weeks ago we brought you news of an MacBook Air clone housed in a rather fetching metal chassis.A variation on that same theme that has turned up on our pal ShanzhaiBen's site; a slightly larger 12.1 inch Air clone with a plastic finish that retails for the highly competitive price of less than 260 bucks and goes by the name 'Little White'. Go figure.
Sporting the now familiar netbook processor platform that we have come to know and love, namely the universal and ubiquitous Intel Atom, the 12.1 inch Little White uses the moderately tame performing N270 clocked at 1.6GHz. I'm sure you could guess the rest of the specs but I'll run through them just in case you've recently arrived from the future. The Atom processor teams up with its favorite buddy, the Intel 94GSE chipset with its GMA950 graphics, a 160GB 5200rpm hard drive, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a card reader and dual USB 2.0 ports.
The screen resolution is similar to its iron clad brethren; 1366 x 768 pixels. This screen resolution is gaining in popularity and is one that I feel will be perfectly suited to its 12.1 inch form. Size and weight? Thin might be in, as Intel tells us, but hey it's all relative. The Little White is 2.5 cm, or one inch at its thickest, which is a bit thinner than most netbooks, but a shade away from being a truly 'thin and light' device, which we are reliably informed by the Intel marketing machine as being somewhere less than than 0.9 inches or 2.3 cm. Weight is 1.36kg. Fairly light for a 12.1 incher.

Western Opportunity Analysis:

As with the 'Full Metal Jacket' clone, the Little White has some stuff that the Apple original doesn't. Top of the list is an Ethernet port, but having more than one USB port is also handy. While in some respects it's unfair to compare a 260 dollar machine with one that starts at more than four times that much, I reckon that in many ways the Little White can hold its own against Apple's flag-ship offering, and that there are zillions of consumers out there who would vote with their wallets to that end. It might only be a matter of time before we see these devices available in the West under a suitable brand name. 'Little White' by the way is a Chinese euphemism for something cute and pure. Obviously.

Conclusions:

Debate over whether or not this device is actually white or not, can stop here and now. It's silver! Would I go for it? Well, I'm no fan of either color but I'd prefer this over the 10 inch metal version simply because of the proper keyboard it uses. I'm really not a fan of the chiclet craze. Long live the real keyboard!
